Chapter Six

It was time for Tay to confess what he was and what Jaylen was to him. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could hold out before he thrust his mate against the wall and claimed him. His dick stayed hard around Jaylen, and if Tay didn’t say something soon, he’d develop blue balls.

Once they were home, Tay went into the kitchen to make two mugs of hot chocolate. He wanted to put Jaylen at ease before he dropped the bomb in the guy’s lap.

Jaylen was curled up on the couch as Tay walked in and handed him his mug.

“Thanks.” Jaylen accepted it then took a tentative sip. “Oh god. This is good!”

Tay grinned. “My mom’s recipe. She’ll be glad to know you appreciate it.”

“Where is your mom?”

Tay set his mug on the coffee table but didn’t sit down. “She lives in Iowa with my dad. I don’t see them as often as I would like, but I talk to her at least once a week.”

“My folks retired to Florida,” Jaylen said. “They had me late in life, when my mom was almost forty. I was a surprise conception, as my mom would say. The best surprise of my parents’ life. They didn’t think they could have a child, and here I came, almost too late in life. They spoiled me rotten.”

Tay was glad to know his mate had had a good upbringing.

“So, you ready to show me whatever it was you wanted to show me?” Jaylen eyed him warily. “You’re not going to do a striptease, are you? I mean, I know I brought up sex, but…”

“That’s exactly what I’m going to do.” Tay yanked his jersey over his head with one hand. Jaylen’s jaw dropped, but Tay kept going. It was better to show his mate that he was a wolf and erase all doubt that he was insane.

“Tay, hold on.” Jaylen sat forward, eyes wider than before. “I was just kidding.”

“It’s not what you think.” He winked at Jaylen. “Just promise not to shank me.”

Jaylen had a look on his face that said he wasn’t sure if Tay was joking or not. There was also lust in those blue eyes, which made Tay grin as he shoved his pants and underwear down his legs. Lastly, he removed his socks.

“Just keep an open mind, okay? I can understand you and know who you are.”

“Of course you can.” Jaylen licked his lips. “I’m just not sure why you feel we need to have a conversation while you’re naked.”

Tay shifted into his wolf.

Jaylen dropped his hot chocolate as he screamed and scrambled over the back of the couch. “You were serious about being a wolf!”

Tay shifted back to his human form. “Dead serious.”

Jaylen’s eyes were even wider as he looked Tay over. “But how is that even possible? Why am I even talking to you? Why am I not running away or passing out?”

Tay got dressed. He waved toward the couch cushions. “Honestly, I don’t know how it’s possible. Shifters have been around since forever.
